Substack Creators: Have you looked at your Welcome Page recently?
Are you maximizing your Welcome Page to attract new subscribers? (Online Edition)
Hello friends!
Last edition, I talked about the importance of leveraging referral partners to cross-promote each other’s newsletters »
So for those of us on Substack, are you giving yourself the best chance to convert that traffic into subscribers?
Let’s examine one conversion point: the Welcome Page
Default Welcome Page
The default Welcome Page for your Substack is the logo, the name, and the short description. Here’s what mine looked like:
Exactly what you’d expect to see, right?
Does it make a strong case for someone to subscribe? Not so much.
But, it’s the best any of us can do, right?
Or so I thought until, I came across by . Check out his Welcome Page.
Wow! What a difference, right?
Instead of just showing his logo, he showed the value of why I should subscribe. How clever!
And inspired by what he did on his Welcome Page, I updated mine:
Did you know besides Product Market Fit (#16), only 2 other Substacks in the Business Top 50 customize their Welcome Page image?
(#48) and (#49).Seems like a missed opportunity doesn’t it?
So what about your Substack?
Want to give a more compelling reason for why people should subscribe?
Here’s how: Go to Your Dashboard → Settings → Welcome Page.
Then, upload a custom image to display on your Welcome Page. Could be a Before-vs-After chart like Guillermo’s or a value-prop statement like mine.
Note, even though it says the image should be 600x600, your image does NOT have to be that size.
Mine is 1080x180, which is perfect for a value-prop statement. You can easily create this in Photoshop or Canva, but if you need help getting started:
👉 Comment “CANVA” and I’ll DM you the Canva template that I made.
Btw, Substack does NOT allow animated images on the Welcome Page. I tried it already. 😔

I'm currently most of the way through trying to get my "about" page right. if it's like things I've done before e.g. on linkedin, no doubt I'll be periodically revisiting anyway. But that's my platform for getting the rest right like the Welcome page...
Great tips, thank you !
